When teeth are damaged but veneers don’t seem necessary, bonding is a great way to restore broken, chipped or discolored teeth.
WHAT IS DENTAL BONDING?
Dr Gandhi – a Bronx, New York area cosmetic dentist mentions Bonding as a special sculpting process in which teeth colored material (a durable, dental grade plastic material) is applied to tooth surfaces, moulded into shape, hardened, and polished to match surrounding teeth. This light ultimately “bonds” the material to the tooth to restore your smile back to good health. This produces a very natural looking result and is a great solution to your dental problems when repair is needed but minimal.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING DENTAL BONDING PROCESS?
Very little advanced preparation needed for dental bonding. It’s rare that anesthesia is often not necessary unless the bonding is being used to fill a decayed tooth. Dr. Gandhi will use a shade guide to select a composite resin color that will closely match the color of your tooth.
The Bonding Process:
Next, the surface of the tooth will be roughened slightly for a conditioning liquid to be applied. These two steps help the bonding material adhere to the tooth. The tooth-colored, putty- like resin is then applied to the tooth, molded, and smoothed to the desired shape. Next, an ultraviolet light or laser is then used to harden the material. After the material has hardened, Dr. Gandhi will further shape and trim it. Finally, she will polish and match the sheen of the rest of the tooth surface.
Dental bonding typically takes about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth to complete.
MAJOR ADVANTAGES OF DENTAL BONDING WITH BRONX DDS.
Dental bonding is the easiest and least expensive among cosmetic dental procedures. Unlike crowns and veneers, which are customized tooth coverings that must be manufactured in a lab, bonding usually can be done in one office visit unless several teeth are involved.
Another advantage to note, dental bonding removes the least amount of tooth enamel compared to veneers and crowns. Anesthesia is usually not required unless dental bonding is being performed to fill a cavity.
